May Day on Mandalore

May Day on Mandalore

The Shipwreck Competition

About This Event

When a crash strands you on a distant planet, the only way out is your charm. Starship Wreck is a wild solo act where students step into characters and plead their case for survival. Funny, clever, dramatic — this is galactic persuasion at its absolute best.

Rules

  1. Shipwreck is basically a speaking competition.
  2. In this shipwreck challenge, participants must think on their feet, speak with conviction, and strategize like true galactic survivors. As stranded voyagers or scattered rebels, you'll be tested on your ability to navigate crises, convince hostile forces, and emerge as leaders in a world where every word matters. The Force may or may not be with you — but your courage and creativity will determine whether you rise from the wreck... or fade into galactic oblivion.
  3. Topic: Participants are given the role of famous celebrities, fictional characters, or hypothetical characters (given on spot)
  4. It is an individual event.
  5. The competition is open to students from grades 9 to 12.
  6. Each participant will get 3 minutes to make their case.
  7. The scenario is that participants find themselves crash-landed on the world of Mandalorian ruins with only their wit, will, and words to rely on.
  8. They must sink into the given character and try to escape from the land of wreck by laying claim to the last 'Beskar Armour' by using impressive, convincing skills and proving that they deserve the only armour left.
  9. Participants must make themselves appear prominent and better than any other person or thing on board to win the armour and eventually win the event.
  10. Judging Criteria: Content, Humour, Cogent Arguments, Valid Points, Audience Response.
  11. Respectful behaviour: All contestants are expected to maintain a respectful and professional attitude towards each other, the judges, and the competition staff.
  12. Disqualification: Any violation of the rules, cheating, or misconduct may result in immediate disqualification from the competition.
  13. Intellectual Property: Content created during the competition remain the intellectual property of the contestants. However, by participating, contestants grant permission for the competition organizers to share their content for promotional purposes.
