Echo Base Build

Echo Base Build

The Art Installation Challenge

About This Event

In the coldest corners of space, art brings warmth through acts of self expression. Echo Base Build is where creators take everyday materials and transform them into powerful installations. It is bold, and meaningful, because sometimes the strongest message doesn't need words at all.

Rules

  1. The competition is open to students from grades 9 to 12.
  2. Time duration: 3 hours.
  3. A team consists of 5 to 7 members.
  4. Topic/Theme: The Force Within - Star Wars – Inner power, spirituality, and the light versus dark within.
  5. Installation art is a visual artwork that can be constructed from a variety of materials and can be created in a variety of locations. It aims to change a viewer's perception of the space and environment in which it is in. This art uses three-dimensional space as a regular sculpture and the fourth dimension as the vertical space where objects can be shown floating in actual given space. Viewers are able to become involved in the artwork, whereas a sculpture is made to be viewed from the outside.
  6. What's unique about Installation art: In this context 'the idea' becomes the driving force throughout the work of art. It is not only a work of art created in relation to the elements of art, but also a signature of a strong message to the audience to re-think about it.
  7. Incorporating sound is mandatory. The installation must include a sound element as an essential part of the concept or experience.
  8. Each participating school must bring its own cordless device (such as a bluetooth speaker or battery-operated sound system) to incorporate the mandatory sound element in their installation.

  11. All items required for the installation art to be placed on the given location 10 minutes prior to its commencement.
  12. Objects collected must be carefully arranged or placed according to an organized system in the given location to create a work of art on the spot.
  13. It is a temporary art, but its impact, message, and notion behind it remains forever.
  14. Display the title of work in a placard format.
  15. Work created must be removed after the judging of the event.
